Oceanus Group (China) Aquaculture Ltd (“OCA”), a fully owned China subsidiary of the Group, operates the abalone hatchery farms in China. Located along the sea in Fo Tan town of Fujian, China, it has a total of 6669 tanks spread across its 39.18 hectare land.
With 135 farm workers, it is capable of spawning over 200 million juvenile abalones each season with a production capacity of 133.38 million juveniles every year. Being a land-based aquaculture facility, the abalone juveniles’ breeding environment is carefully controlled to encourage their growth, survival and propagation so as to deliver consistent supply.
Oceanus Group has also entered into strategic contract farming arrangements with aquaculture farmers which allows full utilisation of all of its tanks and maximise profits.
Abalone not only tastes great, but also an excellent source of many vital nutrients. In Asian cultures, abalone has long been appreciated for its health benefits, including healthy eyes and skin.
Farmed abalone is low in fat and a good source of omega 3, iodine and phosphorous (phosphate). Omega 3 contains anti-inflammatory properties which can reduce the risk of heart disease and arthritis symptoms and are believed to reduce the risk of developing cancers
Iodine is an essential mineral for the healthy function of the thyroid gland which regulates healthy body development, in particular the central nervous system. Phosphorous helps protect the blood's transports energy.
